major components of oil are 77 ~ 78% Menthol, next is 8 ~ 12% Menthone, also contains Menthyl acetate, Camphene, limonene, Isomenthone, Pinene, Menthenone, resin and a small amount of tannin, Rosmarinicacid. Fresh leaf contains about 1% volatile oil, dry leaf contains 1.3% -2% oilwhich mainly contains about 77% -87% l-menthol and about 10% l-menthone. Also contains isomenthone, pulegone, decylacetate, menthyl acetate,benzoic acid menthol ester, α- pinene, pentanol -3, β-pinene, β-thujene, hexanol-2, d-nyrcene, limonene, octanol-3, cineole and α-terpineol etc. In addition, it also contains threonine, alanine, glutamic acid, asparagine, and other amino acids, and a number of flavonoids compound.
Function: dispelling wind-heat, refreshing oneself, promoting eruption. Used for wine-heat type common cold, wind fever, headache, conjunctival congestion, sore throat, aphtha, rubella, measles, chest expansion and nausea.
